What is the Truth about Vulnerability?

Is there more to vulnerability than meets the eye?  Does being vulnerable mean you are weak or strong?  What is really behind the ability to openly show up as your true self?  

The Urban Dictionary tells us being vulnerable is :

Someone who is completely and rawly open, unguarded with their heart, mind, and soul. Being vulnerable happens when you trust completely…”  

Dictionary.com describes weakness as:

“the state or quality of being weak; lack of strength, firmness, vigor, or the like; feebleness.  an inadequate or defective quality, as in a person’s character; slight fault or defect…”

What does it mean to be strong?  The Urban Dictionary says it means:

“someone who comes off as confident, someone who is comfortable in their own skin, someone who can take on the world…”

It depends on your perspective and your experience what is true for you.  I used to believe that being vulnerable was a sign of weakness and had shut myself down to all the amazing possibilities that vulnerability could hold.

Now I believe that it takes someone deeply rooted and confident in their own truth to be vulnerable enough to openly show up and own all of themselves, even their imperfections.   They are able to empower others by their own humanness. And doing that takes unshakable strength.

Over the years I have found that it was the teachers and people in my life who openly showed me their true selves that made the biggest impact on me and helped me to believe in myself and my own personal power.  They instilled in me the ability to fearlessly step into my passion and live my purpose by being willing to be myself.

As a teacher and mentor, now I am better able to empower my students by just being who I am, totally comfortable in my own skin.  In fact, the more vulnerable I am, the stronger they get and the more everyone begins to have Fun.

Quite naturally, I will often find it humorous when I am being myself in the moment and just have to laugh.   This has such a far-reaching effect and helps others relax, release their resistance to being authentic and start enjoying themselves more.  As I openly show them my true self, they are better able to appreciate their uniqueness, believe in themselves and their own personal power.

What can you do to become skilled at being more vulnerable and strong with yourself and others?  I have created the following list of some essential habits that I practice every day. And I know that they will help you too.

How to Empower yourself and others by being Strong and Vulnerable at the same time:

  • Connect to your value as a unique person.  You are valuable just as you are.  Your value comes from your own uniqueness.

  • Follow Your own Heart.  It is your life, your path, your journey so consciously choose what you want to do every step of the way.

  • Believe in your own truths.  Be willing to discover what is true for you and then live accordingly.

  • Be true to yourself.  Be your own best friend.

  • Laugh at yourself and your own humanness.  Relax and have more fun no matter what anyone else thinks.

  • Allow others to be who they are and follow their own path.  You are not responsible for them, so give them the freedom to be themselves.

  • Embrace the differences you have with others.  Choose to learn and grow from them.

  • Celebrate the incredible opportunity to Just BE YOU!  Enjoy the personal freedom that comes from being Strong and Vulnerable.

The more you practice these on a daily basis, you will begin to experience a stronger connection with your own personal power.  By being willing to be real, you can more easily and fearlessly step into living your passion and your purpose. Your ability to help influence others to do the same will be a direct result of your efforts to free yourself. The more vulnerable you allow yourself to be, the more opportunity you give others to be stronger in their own vulnerability. And everyone ends up having more Fun.

Is Procrastination Holding You Back?

Do you ever feel like you have so many things you want to accomplish that you can’t ever seem to get them done, or even start doing them?  How does that make you feel? Does it make you feel like you are lazy? Do you get frustrated with yourself? Do you feel like a failure? Is that how you want to feel?

The dictionary defines procrastination as:

  1. the action of delaying or postponing something

In my experience, I found that even when I felt like I was procrastinating, eventually everything still got done. Even if it didn’t get done, I realized that it all worked out better than I ever expected it to.  I often wondered what was making me feel so bad.

As I began learning more about the Law of Attraction and how “like attracts like”, it dawned on me that my thoughts could be attracting the way I was feeling.  When I started consciously watching my thoughts, I decided to try to think about procrastination in a more positive way. I began to realize that maybe it was just a way to delay what wasn’t meant to happen at that time or at all.  Knowing that made me feel a lot better and I began to be easier on myself whenever I felt like I was procrastinating. It even felt better to think about it as perfect timing instead of procrastination.

When I began to relax about getting it all done, new resources and people became available that made everything so much easier and faster to accomplish.  I opened up to new possibilities of how it all could get done. I started getting excited about how it was all going to get done. Before I knew it, I began enjoying taking action to complete whatever I wanted to do.  I was definitely having more Fun.

In my experience, it is our perspective that creates our reality.  Now when I think of all the things I want to accomplish, I know it will all be done in its own perfect timing.  Procrastination no longer exists in my thoughts. If it ever does come to mind, I just reach for better feeling thoughts about it.

Here are some of the better feeling thoughts I discovered about procrastination:

  • I have plenty of time to get this done

  • I have, know or can find out what I need to get this done

  • I have enough energy to complete everything I want to do

  • It is O.K. to take time to relax before I begin

  • I am successful in all areas of my life

  • It will all get done in the perfect time and the perfect way

  • I now allow myself to accomplish all that needs to be done

  • It is Fun to do whatever I want

  • It is exciting to look for all the possible ways to get everything done

  • The better I feel, the easier it all gets accomplished

I encourage you to start watching what you are thinking when you feel like you are procrastinating.  Then follow these 6 easy steps:

  1. Create a list of your own better feeling thoughts to add to the list above.  

  2. Read them whenever you feel like you are being held back by your own thoughts about procrastination.

  3. Check in with yourself often to see how you feel.  

  4. Notice your thoughts and how they have changed your perception about procrastination.  

  5. See the difference in the outcome.  

  6. Relax, Enjoy and have Fun!  It will all get done!
